"My principle inspiration comes from the
employees... I try to go to the field on a weekly basis... I
come back with fresh ideas and a clearer understanding of our
needs... These people... set the pace of what we can do by
clearly understanding the strategy and overall goals of the
company."

Public Relations is about building
credibility for you and your organization. Credibility is
rooted in trust and perception. In order to have
credibility, people have to feel that they can trust you and
that you are good at what you do.
People want to work with the best.
If given a choice between a heart surgeon who has performed
hundreds of successful operations and one who is relatively new
to the profession, most people would prefer to go with the one
who has a proven track record. They perceive the
surgeon who has performed hundreds as being one of the best in
his field, even though the newbie may be every bit as
knowledgeable and capable. In a nutshell, they perceive
the experienced surgeon to be an expert, while the
newcomer has not yet achieved this level of credibility.
One way to build credibility in your
field is to author and publish articles, books or reports
related to your profession.
Think about it: if we
read a well-written, informative piece on a particular topic, we
tend to think that the author knows their stuff. If a
person's published works are accurate and informative, they
bolster the author's credibility and strengthen his or her standing
as a leading expert in their field.
Ask yourself: what topics can
you write about that will add value to the reader and
demonstrate your knowledge and expertise in your profession?
